Overview

The Annapurna Base Camp trek is one of the best treks in Nepal to approach the snow mountains and walk on snow throughout the year. The Annapurna base camp trek and Annapurna century trek are the same. The height of the Annapurna Base Camp is about 4200 meters, or 13650 feet. Annapurna base camp lies just on the lap of the mountains, Annapurna First, Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli. As trekkers arrived at Annapurna base camp, they found they were surrounded by the Himalayas. In most of the year   the whole trail from Deurali to Annapurna base camp is covered by snow, and in March and April there is more than 5 feet of snow on the trail. Trekkers could walk through it. The adventure of walking on snow for 4–5 hours is wonderful. The Annapurna base camp trek can be started from Phedi, Naya pul, or New Bridge. The best season to trek to Annapurna base camp is October,November, December and March,April,May. But this trek can be done throughout the year. In the monsoon, there are a lot of leeches on the way to the trail, and in the winter, some of the trail is blocked by the snow. Most of the time, the trail passes through the gorge. The Annapurna base camp trek is a moderate trek.

The Annapurna base camp trek is a paradise of nature. The Annapurna base camp trek offers a great variety of beautiful landscapes, nature and culture. The trek to Annapurna Base Camp passes through rice cultivation, beautiful villages, green forests, bamboo jungles, rivers, birds, animals, and unique flora and fauna in the mighty Annapurna Himalayan range.

The Annapurna Base Camp trek is a perfect trekking route to view the high Himalayas, including Mt. Dhaulagiri, the Annapurna range, and Mt. Machhapuchhare (Fish Tail), and glaciers so closely.

Annapurna Base Camp trekking falls within the Annapurna Conservation Area, a project called ACAP for environmental and cultural protection. Many plants native to Nepal, a variety of birds and animals, including snow leopards and blue sheep, around 100 varieties of orchids, and some of the richest temperate rhododendron forests in the world are particular attractions of the Annapurna area.

The Annapurna base camp trail is home to the indigenous Gurung and Magar people of Nepal, who are rich in culture and tradition. On the way to Annapurna base camp trekking, we can explore the Gurung museum.

Detail Info

Precaution during the Annapurna Base Camp trek

Precaution during the Annapurna Base Camp trek is very important for all trekkers or hikers in all seasons, especially from January to May. The Annapurna Base Camp trek is an easy trek that passes through beautiful mountainous villages like Gkandruk, Ghorepani, and Chomrong with green fields and hills. The trail on this trek goes up and down hills. However, trekkers can make it through the whole year by hiking. But October to December and March to June are the best seasons. December, January, and February are the winter months in Nepal when there is heavy snowfall in the mountains. From March on, the snow starts melting and falling down in the form of avalanches, glaciers, and finally rivers. Sometimes they fall down as small solids and do not cause problems for the trekkers. But sometimes they fall in the form of a big solid that is very dangerous and deadly. On the Annapurna Base Camp trek, from Bamboo to Fishtail Base Camp, there are regular avalanches, and they are really dangerous and have taken the lives of many trekkers. Trekkers lose their lives due to the lack of information. We can make our trip safe, adventurous, and wonderful only if we are a little bit careful and have enough knowledge of avalanches. For a safe trek, the trekkers need an experienced guide. From January to May, trekkers should be very careful while walking from Bamboo to Fishtail Base Camp and take enough information from the trekking agency and trekking experts.

I visited Annapurna Base Camp many times with tourists as a trekking leader and guide and encountered many avalanches but did not have any problems. I saw some tourists, their guides, and porters spotted dead by avalanches. So, if you have any questions about the Annapurna base camp trek, please contact me at 977-985-1089399, trek with our company, or go with some other trekking company.

Visa: You can get an arrival visa at Kathmandu airport that costs 30 US dollars for 15 days, 50 US dollars for 30 days and 125 US dollars for 90 days. Please bring 2 passport-size photos. You can get your visa from the closest Nepali embassy too.

Annapurna Base Camp Accommodations

In Kathmandu, we provide a 2-star equivalent hotel like an international guest house with bed and breakfast. In trekking, we provide an attached toilet room in the low lands. As we arrive at higher elevations, it is difficult to get an attached toilet room and a single room in peak season. In peak season, we have to share the room. But we will try to provide a single room if it is possible.

Food and beverages during the Annapurna base camp trek

We can get all kinds of food while trekking, choose from a menu, and eat as much as we want. We do not recommend eating any kinds of meat that is carried by local porters from low land for 2-3 days. In the trekking region, they are not allowed to kill any animals. We recommend eating all kinds of vegetarian food and eggs. You can have meat when you arrive in the lowlands of Pokhara and Kathmandu. You can get all kinds of drinks on the trekking route. We recommend drinking mineral water, boiled water, or purified water. A purifying tablet is provided by our guide. All kinds of cold drinks and beers are available in tea houses. In higher elevations, we do not recommend drinking hard drinks.

Annapurna base camp trek guide and porter

We provide English-speaking guides and some of the guides can speak extra languages like Chinese, German, French, Spanish, Italian, and Russian. Extra language guides are not included in this cost. On request of the guest, we provide an extra language guide at no extra cost. Our guides and porters are very helpful, kind, and dedicated to their duty. Every day, they send us a message about the guest’s situation and the weather in trekking.

How hard is it to go to Annapurna base camp on a trek?

Annapurna base camp trek is a moderate trek due to many up and down hills though there are hundreds of beautiful breathtaking sceneries. If you have good practice walking up and down hills, it is not so hard. The trekking trail passes along a narrow, slippery gorge road. There are many places on the way to the trail that are really in danger of landslides and avalanches. Many times, I encountered landslides and avalanches. You can make it easy if you follow some rules and regulations before starting your trek towards Annapurna base camp. After Bamboo, it is better to walk in the morning. Because the snow piles froze all night, they begin to melt or break and fall as a large avalanche on a sunny day. To protect themselves from high-altitude sickness, if tourists walk slowly and steadily with many breaks on the way to the trek, they can acclimatize easily, and the trek will be easy. Every 1 to 2 hours on the way to the trek, there are tea houses where tourists can get enough liquids and rest. If possible, try to practice walking through steeps. Jogging and swimming are equally helpful. Any exercise that is convenient for you and helps you be fit is recommended.

How long does it take to get to Annapurna base camp?
