This 10-day adventure provides a perfect mix of adventure, culture, and tranquility, making it an unforgettable experience for trekkers of varying skill levels.

The Gosaikunda basin contains about a dozen Lakes. The Saraswatikunada, Bhairabkunda and Gosaikunda are the most famous Kundas.

Gosaikunda Chisapani Trek Difficulty

The Gosaikunda Chisapani Trek is a moderate to challenging trek because the route reaches an altitude of around 4,400 meters at Gosaikunda and crosses the Lauribina Pass at approximately 4,610 meters. Some days involve 5–8 hours of walking on uphill, downhill and uneven mountain trails.

Previous trekking experience is helpful but not essential for physically fit travelers. You should be comfortable walking for several hours each day and be prepared for changing weather and cold temperatures at higher elevations.

Your trekking guide will maintain a suitable pace and monitor the group’s condition throughout the trek.

Walking Hours and Daily Trekking Conditions

Walking time varies according to the day’s route, altitude, trail conditions and the pace of the group. Most trekking days require approximately 5–8 hours of walking.

The most demanding section is the journey from Gosaikunda across Lauribina Pass (4,610m) and down toward Ghopte. Weather and snow conditions can affect the difficulty of this section, particularly during winter.

Altitude and Acclimatization

Altitude is an important consideration on the Gosaikunda Chisapani Trek because the route reaches more than 4,000 meters.

The trek gradually gains elevation from Dhunche before reaching Sing Gompa and Gosaikunda. Although the itinerary provides time to adjust to the increasing altitude, every traveler responds differently to high altitude.

To reduce altitude-related problems:

Walk at a steady and comfortable pace.

Drink plenty of water.

Avoid excessive alcohol during the trek.

Eat regular meals.

Inform your guide immediately if you feel unwell.

Follow your guide’s advice regarding altitude and trekking pace.

If serious altitude-related symptoms occur, the itinerary may need to be changed for safety.

Gosaikunda Lake and the Sacred Lakes

Gosaikunda is a sacred high-altitude lake and an important pilgrimage destination for both Hindus and Buddhists. The surrounding Gosaikunda basin contains several lakes, with Gosaikunda, Saraswatikunda and Bhairabkunda among the best-known.

The area has strong religious and cultural significance, particularly during the Janai Purnima festival, when pilgrims traditionally travel to Gosaikunda to worship and bathe in the sacred lake.

Local Culture and Villages

The trek passes through traditional mountain settlements where you can experience the lifestyle and hospitality of local Himalayan communities. Along the route, you can observe traditional houses, Buddhist cultural influences, monasteries, prayer flags and mountain farming practices.

The journey provides opportunities to interact respectfully with local people and learn about their culture and daily life.

Langtang National Park

Parts of the Gosaikunda trekking route pass through Langtang National Park, Nepal’s first Himalayan national park. The protected area contains forests, alpine landscapes and diverse Himalayan flora and fauna.

Depending on the season and conditions, trekkers may see different species of birds and wildlife while walking through the forested sections of the trail.

Accommodation during the Trek

Accommodation during the trekking portion is generally provided in local teahouses and mountain lodges. Rooms are normally basic and may have twin beds.

Facilities become more basic as you reach higher elevations. Bathrooms may be shared, and hot showers, Wi-Fi and charging facilities may be available at some lodges for an additional charge.

In Kathmandu, accommodation is provided in a comfortable tourist-standard hotel according to the package arrangement.

Meals during the Trek

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided during the trekking days.

Teahouses normally offer a selection of local and simple international meals. Popular choices include dal bhat, rice, vegetables, noodles, pasta, soup, potatoes, eggs and other available dishes.

At higher elevations, food choices may be more limited because supplies must be transported along the mountain trails.

Drinking Water

Drinking water is available along the trekking route from teahouses, shops and local water sources. Trekkers can use boiled water or properly treated water.

We recommend carrying a reusable water bottle and using suitable water purification tablets, drops or a filtration system when necessary.

Trekking Permits and Entry Fees

The required trekking permits and applicable national park or government entry fees are arranged according to the regulations applicable to the route.

The relevant permit and entry-fee costs included in your package are covered under the Cost Includes section.

Guide and Porter Service

An experienced English-speaking local trekking guide will lead the trek and assist with navigation, accommodation, meals, altitude awareness and general trekking support.

Porter service can be provided according to the package arrangement. Porters carry the agreed amount of trekking luggage while trekkers carry their personal daypack.

Our trekking staff are insured according to the company’s trekking arrangements.

Trekking Safety and Emergency Support

Your safety is our priority throughout the trek. Our guide will monitor weather, trail conditions and the physical condition of group members.

In the event of a serious emergency, evacuation or other emergency transportation may be required. Travel insurance covering trekking at high altitude and emergency evacuation is strongly recommended and is the responsibility of the traveler.

Spring – March to May

Spring offers pleasant trekking conditions, blooming rhododendrons and generally good opportunities for mountain views. The lower forests become particularly colorful during this season.

Autumn – September to November

Avoid throwing plastic and other waste on the trail.

Carry reusable water bottles where possible.

Respect local customs and religious sites.

Ask permission before photographing local people.

Itinerary

  • Arrive at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport, situated at an altitude of 1,400 meters. After landing, you’ll be transferred to your hotel, which takes about 30-60 minutes depending on traffic. The rest of the day is free for you to relax, adjust to the altitude, and explore the city if you wish. There are no major activities planned, so it’s a great time to acclimatize and rest before the adventure begins.

  • Today will be a full day of sightseeing in Kathmandu, allowing you to visit some of the city’s most famous cultural and religious sites. You’ll explore Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Pashupatinath Temple, and Boudhanath Stupa. Additionally, you will also prepare for your trek by checking your gear and having a briefing. This day will help you immerse in the local culture and finalize your preparations for the trek, with no significant altitude change.

  • On Day 3, you will drive to Dhunche, located at an altitude of 1,950 meters. The drive takes approximately 6-7 hours, passing through scenic valleys, terraced fields, and forests. Dhunche is a small town and serves as the starting point for many treks in the Langtang region. After arrival, you’ll check into your hotel and relax for the evening, adjusting to the initial elevation gain.

  • The trek begins with a journey from Dhunche to Sing Gompa, situated at an altitude of 3,300 meters. The trek takes around 5-6 hours, passing through lush forests of rhododendron and oak trees. As you gain altitude, the surroundings become more rugged, with occasional views of the snow-capped Langtang peaks. Sing Gompa is a small monastery, and it is a perfect spot for your first overnight stay in the mountains.

  • Today’s trek takes you from Sing Gompa to the sacred Gosainkunda Lake, located at an altitude of 4,400 meters. The trek takes about 6-7 hours, and it includes challenging ascents, but the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, including Langtang Lirung, make it rewarding. Gosainkunda is a spiritual destination, known for its clear blue waters and its significance to both Hindus and Buddhists. After reaching the lake, take some time to relax and enjoy the serenity of the area.

  • Today, you will trek from Gosainkunda to Ghopte, which is located at 3,440 meters. The trek takes you over the challenging Laurebinayak Pass, which stands at an altitude of 4,610 meters. The high-altitude pass offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks. The trek will take about 7-8 hours, and after crossing the pass, you will descend to Ghopte, a small village, for an overnight stay. This day will be physically demanding due to the high altitude and the pass crossing.

  • After the tough day at Laurebinayak Pass, you will trek to Kutumsang, located at an altitude of 2,446 meters. The trek, which takes about 5-6 hours, descends gradually through forests and remote villages. The area is quieter, with fewer trekkers, offering a peaceful atmosphere. Upon arrival in Kutumsang, you will rest and relax in this serene village.

  • On Day 8, you will trek to Chisapani, located at 2,194 meters. The trek will take approximately 5-6 hours, descending through more forests and villages. Chisapani is a great vantage point for views of the Langtang and Ganesh Himal ranges. After arriving at Chisapani, take in the peaceful surroundings and enjoy the stunning mountain vistas. This will be a relatively easier day of trekking compared to previous days.

  • On the final trekking day, you will descend from Chisapani to Sundarijal, which takes around 3-4 hours. From Sundarijal, you will drive back to Kathmandu, which takes about 1-2 hours. Once back in Kathmandu, you’ll have the rest of the day to relax and explore the city or shop for souvenirs. This marks the end of your trekking journey in the Langtang region.

  • On the final day of your trip, you will be dropped off at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport for your flight to your next destination. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have some time to enjoy your last moments in Nepal before your departure.

Best Season to  Gosainkunda Trek

Spring (March to May):

Spring is also a very good season for the 10 Days Gosainkunda Trek, with pleasant and fine weather and views around. The temperature will differ from 10°C to 20°C at lower altitudes. It is a bit cool at higher altitudes. There are ideal trekking conditions regarding the temperature. These routes are colorful with bloomed rhododendrons and greenery everywhere, which are a treat to watch while stepping every inch. Excellent views of the ranges of Langtang and Ganesh Himal can be seen in clear skies, which will add more value to your experience. Spring is also a peak season for trekkers, so expect to have an exciting atmosphere on the trails and in the teahouses.

Autumn (September to November)

The Autumn season is also considered one of the prime seasons to head for the 10 Days Gosainkunda Trek as during this time, it receives stable weather conditions, crystal-clear skies, and crisp air. During daytime, the temperature remains favorable at 10°C-15°C, while nights might be cold at higher elevations. Post-monsoon clarity ensures breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks, serene landscapes, and sacred Gosainkunda Lake. This season coincides with major Nepali festivals like Dashain and Tihar, allowing trekkers to witness vibrant cultural celebrations. The dry trails and excellent visibility make autumn a favorite time for trekkers seeking a perfect mix of adventure and cultural immersion.

Winter (December to February)

Winter is a challenging yet rewarding option for the 10 Days Gosainkunda Trek, with temperatures often below freezing at higher altitudes. The snow-covered landscapes and tranquil trails provide a unique and serene trekking experience, far from the usual crowds. However, trekking during this season requires proper gear and preparation to handle the cold and potential snow, especially at Gosainkunda Lake and Laurebinayak Pass. While the views of the mountains can often be stunningly clear, teahouses at higher altitudes might be closed down due to extreme weather conditions, hence making logistics a bit more complicated.

Monsoon (June to August)

The monsoon time of the year, however, is the most unfavorable season for the 10 Days Gosainkunda Trek because of the heavy rainfall that makes the trek difficult; the trails get muddy, slippery, and leechy. This is the most favorable season for those people who prefer quiet trails as the path is less busy, and the landscapes wear a very lush and fresh look. Rain-washed skies and greenery add their charm, though there is a possibility that views of the mountains could be substantially obscured by cloud cover. Extra care on the trails and proper rain gear is crucial if you choose to go trekking during this season.

Climbing Mera Peak: An Unforgettable Adventure with Nepal Mountain Lovers I climbed Mera Peak with Nepal Mountain Lovers in April 2024, and it was one of the best trips of my life. Nepal is a land of magic, and the Nepalese people are kind, supportive, and welcoming. Tara, the organizer, has all these qualities and more. My sherpas, Wanglee and Gyalje, were incredible. Wanglee and I had so much fun on the way up to Khare and all the way back to Kathmandu. The accommodation, food, weather, and scenery were all fantastic. I'm already looking forward to another adventure with them in the future. I have full confidence in Tara and his organization, and I highly recommend them to everyone. Thanks a lot, my friend, and see you again soon!

Exceptional, Awesome and Amazing We are thrilled to share our extremely positive feedback about Nepal Mountain Lovers company, particularly regarding our experience with Tara and his team. Our group, consisting of 10 individuals from South India (some of us came from Melbourne, Australia (South India Origin)), embarked on a pilgrimage trip. Given our specific requirements for flights, accommodation, and food, Tara not only ensured that we had a memorable journey but also became a true friend to us. He effortlessly made us feel as though we were being guided by a trusted friend or family member. Tara took the time to understand our food preferences and always made arrangements to meet our needs, even when we made last-minute requests like wanting to do a motorbike ride on the hills. Thanks to his extensive knowledge of Nepal, our trip was made easy and stress-free.Recognising that many of our parents were elderly, Tara went above and beyond to organise the necessary facilities to accommodate their needs. Every aspect of our trip, from coordination to planning, was meticulously arranged. Throughout the 9-day trip, each day proved to be exceptional.Towards the end of our journey, we encountered unexpected challenges due to forest fires, resulting in the cancellation of flights from Jomsom and Pokhara. However, Tara swiftly arranged alternative transportation, ensuring our safety and ensuring that none of our planned activities were missed. It was disheartening to witness other travelers from other agencies stranded at the airport, while we were well taken care of by Tara and his team.We were delighted with the exceptional service provided by Tara and his team at Nepal Mountain Lovers. Should we have the opportunity to visit Nepal again, we would not hesitate to seek their services. In fact, my friends and I are already considering another adventure with Tara, particularly to the base camp.We wholeheartedly recommend Tara and Nepal Mountain Lovers to anyone seeking adventure, a pilgrimage, or simply a chance to admire the stunning mountains of Nepal. Their professionalism, expertise, and dedication are truly commendable.

The beauty of the Himalayas in the best of hands! We learned so much sightseeing even if we only had 2 days to visit Kathmandu, Tara, our city guide, was the best and knew exactly what to focus our attention on. We even had the privilege to participate in a cultural evening with Nepalese foods and traditional dance from various ethnic groups like the Sherpa and the Tamang. Wow! Hindouisme and Buddhism come together peacefully and colorfully in the capital city of Nepal! So many temples, stupas, monuments to honor Hindu gods or Buddha. A rich history to say the least that was very well presented to us!Tara also organized our 13 day trek to and from Everest base camp. He found us the best guide, Bishal, and local porters for our adventure. We are a Canadian family and we were with our 3 children, our youngest is 9 and we also have a 12 and 14 year old. We felt very safe and well advised all along the way. We discovered much about the food, the culture, the Buddhist monuments and the mountains thanks to our guide. When we were on our way back from EBC (yes we made it!) and needed some changes made regarding our flight back for example the communication was clear and efficient with both our trek guide and Tara.I highly recommend Nepal Mountain Lovers Treks and Expedition. The logistics of travel for our trekking expedition and the human connection with our guides were all in place to facilitate this unique experience. We have been blessed to have been able to witness the power and beauty of the Himalayas while in the best of hands!

Very Tara was accommodating, from the intial emails and calls until we arrived there. He was flexible as I changed my mind several times during the planning process. He personally accompanied us during the tour and it shows he is a very experienced guide/ owner. He has done a lot of the treks himself so you feel secured with him. Overall what a positive experience booking with this company!

I will come back! I was a solo traveller in a fabulous trekking organized by Mr. Tara in the first week of December, great period to go to the Everest region if you want to stay clear off tourist crowds. Everything was perfectly organized, was handled with professionalism, overall, my trekking experience was beyond my expectations. The package included airport pickup and drop-off 2 days in a very good 3 star hotel in Kathmandu, a round trip ticket Kathmandu-Lukla-Kathmandu, a cultural program, a price, and many other facilities usually given to large groups. My trekking started as for any tourists, from Lukla airport with Mr. Dipak, a very professional and experienced guide and also a great travel mate, open to any kinds of conversation all along the trek that lasted around 12 days. I added 2 extra days to visit Kathmandu guided by Mr. Tara who also helped me to get a special price for my extra days’ accommodation. I am a very happy and super satisfied trekker who keeps on recommending Mr. Tara’s agency, to friends and acquaintances. What I found really amazing, is I felt like travelling together with my best friends. I am going to repeat it adding Imja Tse peak.

Trek to Everest Base Camp and Visit of Kathmandu My son and I have had a wonderful trek to Everest Base Camp superbly organized by Tara. The guide and porter he selected were professional and took good care of us throughout the 12 days trek. Tara was our guide in Kathmandu and the area. All the site he selected were interesting to visit and see. All the recommendations he made either met or exceeded our expectations including the small hotel in the middle of the city and close to everything. Tara was also extremely flexible to adjust his plans and schedule to our last minute request. My son and I plan to go back to Nepal for another father and son trip and we will use no one else but Tara and the Nepal Mountain Lovers agency.

Well organized, flexible and delightful We contacted Tara over 2 years ago for the Everest Base Camp Trek, but the earthquake made it impossible. We had already given him the deposit for the trip. No problem, 2 years later, we were finally able to meet and do the trek! When we got sick going up, he added a day for use no problem. The guide he chose was reliable, flexible, fun and he knew his business. Tara called us on the mountain to make sure everything was okay. His advice made it possible for us to get to the base camp and to summit Kala Patthar. When we got back, we booked a small cultural tour of Kathmandu. Tara was our guide. Always smiling and laughing. He made this trip a delight. Very happy to have met this man. 10/10 would recommend and use again!

A Short But Memorable Trek In Nepal My friend and I had only a few days spare to visit Nepal, but as soon as I contacted Tara at Nepal Mountain Lovers I knew we would be able to arrange a trip that was full and worthwhile. Tara replied very promptly to my initial message and had designed an itinerary that suited our time frame very well. He was there to greet us at the airport and drive us straight to the International Guest House in Thamel district (we'd requested a budget trip and were pleasantly surprised with how nice the place was). Once we were settled in the hotel, Tara sat us down with the map and asked if we would like to do a trek that was a little more challenging than our initial itinerary - which we were more than happy to do. The trek itself was fantastic. The uphills did leave us a little breathless but were well worth it as we were rewarded with stunning views of the Kathmandu valley and the surrounding mountains. Along the way, Tara was full if interesting facts about Nepal - it's religion, politics and anything else we asked about. The pace of the trek was good, with plenty of breaks and stops to take pictures - at no point did we feel rushed. We also had no problem finding hotels to stay in along the way. Upon returning to Kathmandu, Tara took us on a walk through Bhaktapur, an ancient town full of fascinating architecture and historical curiosities. Our final evening was spent at a traditional Nepalese dinner, with dancers and musicians to entertain the guests, showcasing the best of Nepalese culture. Overall we were extremely pleased with the service provided. The cost was very reasonable and it left us free to enjoy Nepal's beautiful landscapes without having to worry about anything! Tara was an excellent guide, a friendly man who was very accommodating to our needs. We're already talking about returning to Nepal to do the Everest base camp trek. If you're planning a trip we would highly recommend getting in touch with Nepal Mountain Lovers.
