Overview
Mera Peak CLimbing
Mera Peak Climbing provides a once-in-a-lifetime experience in the majestic Makalu Barun National Park, which is close to the Everest region. At 6,476m (21,247ft), Nepal’s highest trekking peak, it’s the ideal trip for those who want to experience high-altitude climbing without needing sophisticated technical skills. You can experience the rich Sherpa culture, hike through stunning Himalayan vistas, and use boots and ropes to traverse glaciers on this incredible adventure. Mera Peak Climbing is more than just a climb; it’s the combination of the excitement of reaching new heights, cultural diversity, and scenic beauty.
At the high camp, tourists can enjoy tea and coffee while taking in the breathtaking views of the numerous Himalayan peaks. we have to walk gradually up on snow with a rocky trail for about 6 hours to reach Mera high camp (5800m/19028ft). Once at the high camp, you will see stunning views of Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Lhotse, Mount Everest, and Cho Oyu, all of which are above 8000m. Our climbing Sherpa and supporters will fix the tent for an overnight stay. Mera high camp is the final day of our Mera peak climbing expedition, with the goal of conquering Mera peak. We start to climb at about 1.00 am, or the climbing Sherpa will decide the climbing time. We have to reach the top early in the morning to avoid storms. As we climb up, we do so very slowly to acclimatize well. Upon arriving at the south col, we will witness the marvelous sunrise over the Himalayas. After reaching the top of Mera peak, we will have a magnificent view of Mount Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8516m), Kanchenjunga (8586m), Makalu (8463m), Cho Oyu (8201m), and many other peaks. We will spend some time at the top of the peak and then descend down to Khare. It is easier and faster to descend than to ascend. The entire journey to the top and back down will take about 10 hours.
There are two ways to reach Mera Peak for climbing. One option is to take a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and begin the trek. The other option is to drive from Kathmandu to Bung by road in a Jeep. If you choose to fly from Kathmandu to Lukla, you will enjoy a scenic 35-minute flight with breathtaking views of the Himalayas, mountains, hills, green forests, rivers, and traditional Nepali villages perched on the hillsides. Upon arrival in Lukla, you will be greeted by the refreshing mountain air, followed by a pleasant breakfast in Lukla. The trek begins after breakfast, with the first day being relatively easy as you pass through dense forests and hills, encountering summer pastures where Yak cattle graze. The landscape may remind you of life 500 years ago, with many ups and downs along the trail. On the second day of the trek, you will reach Zwarta La Pass at an altitude of 4600 meters, offering brilliant views of the Himalayas. In March and April, the hills are adorned with pink rhododendron flowers, creating a picturesque sight. Walking over ridges, rocky trails, and glaciers provides an unforgettable experience. The 200-year-old Lungsumgba Gompa is a highlight of this trek.
The Everest region is a popular destination for trekkers, with around 500 trekkers embarking on the route to Everest Base Camp daily during peak season. In contrast, the Mera Peak trail sees fewer tourists, offering a peaceful and serene trekking experience despite being located in the Everest region.
For those who prefer not to fly from Kathmandu to Lukla, they can opt to travel to Bung, the starting point of the Mera Peak climbing trek. The mountain road offers fantastic views of green fields, rice terraces, rivers, waterfalls, hills, traditional Nepali villages, the local culture, and small Nepali towns.

Normally, the days are quite long, and steep in altitude gain, hence accordingly the altitude gain is exhausting. Acclimatization is necessary. The challenge can be comfortably managed with experience in trekking and good physical condition.

SUPPORT
Best Season to Visit Mera Peak Climbing
Spring (March to May)
Spring is considered one of the best times to climb the peak due to the stable and clear weather and temperature conditions. Rhododendrons, full of vibrant colors, are in full bloom alongside various greenery, making the whole trek dramatically beautiful. One can see from the clear sky the breathtaking sight of the giant Himalayas: Everest, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga. Whereas the day temperatures are moderate for the climb, it gets quite cold during nights at higher altitudes. The chances of risks are less because the weather is stable hence ideal for both novice and experienced climbers.
Autumn (September to November)
Autumn is also perfect for Mera Peak Climbing, having crisp crystal clear skies as well as mild weather. Generally, the monsoon rain leaves the landscape lush and verdant, therefore adding beauty to the trekking routes. Minimum cloud cover provides the best visibility, with unobstructed views of towering peaks. Temperatures are moderate during the day and chilly but manageable nights, thus guaranteeing a comfortable climb. This season also falls with local festivals, so trekking can view Nepalese culture and tradition.
Winter (December to February)
Winter is basically a whole different thing, and it offers different experiences for those who would not mind the chill. This is surreal, with the landscapes all covered in snow and glaciers. However, temperatures can get extremely low, especially higher up, and thus recommended for well-prepared climbers with some high-altitude trekking experience. Skies are usually clear, offering great views of surrounding peaks, but the harsh weather and very basic teahouse facilities can make the climb demanding.
Summer/ Monsoon (June to August)
As Nepal gets very heavy monsoons in summer, Mera Peak Climbing happens to be the worst of the seasons. Very heavy rain would cover a fair amount of slippery trails. Sometimes there are landslides noticed on the trail, along with continuous dense clouds and fog catching up making low visibility. However decent trekking conditions may still be offered in places out of the rain shadow area. Moreover, this season invites professional trekkers to ensure solitude and quiet time with very careful preparation for unexpected and unpredictable weather conditions.
Mera Peak climbing price is a crucial factor, as climbing without a permit is strictly prohibited. The permit fee for tourists is US$ 250 for the months of March, April, and May, US$ 70 for June, July, and August, US$ 125 for September, October, and November, and US$ 70 for December, January, and February. Additionally, there is a US$ 30 entrance fee for the Makalu Barun National Park.

Mera peak death rate is extremely low. It is not quantifiable in terms of a percentage. While there have been instances where climbers have unfortunately lost their lives, it is usually due to a lack of proper information on safety rules provided by climbing guides. We prioritize the safety of our guests, and our climbing sherpas are dedicated to ensuring a safe climbing experience. Thanks to our ten years of experience, we have not encountered any major issues. Safety always comes first, as without life, there can be no climbing. In the event of sudden weather changes, heavy snowfall, or signs of high altitude sickness in our guests, our climbing sherpas will make the decision to cancel the trip and return to a safe location. Once conditions improve, they will resume the climb.
