Overview

The Gosaikunda  Short Trek, located in Nepal’s Langtang region, combines spiritualism and beauty. For many hikers, this is one of the most amazing trekking routes. It is encircled by the snow-capped Himalayas and located in the isolated parts of the Helambu. The trek’s highest destination is Gosaikunda Lake (4380m/14370ft), which is also referred to as the Frozen Lake of Nepal since it stays frozen during the winter.

There are about 100 sacred lakes known as kunda, which are visited by both Buddhists and Hindus. In order to prevent the poison from killing living things, Hindus say that Lord Shiva created the sacred lake Gosaikunda with his trident to calm his thirst after ingesting poison that emerged during “Saaghar Manthan” (between Gods and Demons).

Because it is thought that a dip in this sacred lake will wash away our sins, allowing our souls to rest in heaven after death, millions of devotees from Buddhism and Hinduism visit the lake for a dip on the day of the “Janai Purnima Festival” in August and September.

Main attraction of Gosaikunda  short trek

  • Gosaikunda is a high-altitude glacial lake situated at 4,380 meters in the Langtang National Park. It is considered sacred by Hindus and Buddhists, with great religious significance tied to Lord Shiva.
  • Thousands of pilgrims visit the lake during the Janai Purnima festival in August. It is believed that bathing in the lake cleanses sins and purifies the soul.
  • Surrounded by snow-capped peaks and rugged terrain, the turquoise waters of the lake create a breathtaking sight. The serene environment offers a tranquil escape.
  • Gosaikunda is a highlight of the Langtang-Gosaikunda trek. Trekkers enjoy panoramic views of the Langtang, Ganesh, and Annapurna mountain ranges.
  • Located within Langtang National Park, the area is home to diverse flora and fauna, including red pandas, Himalayan tahr, and rhododendron forests.
  • The trek passes through traditional Tamang and Sherpa villages, providing insight into the local culture, traditions, and warm hospitality.
  • A popular route to Gosaikunda begins from Dhunche or Syabrubesi, making it relatively accessible for trekkers with varying levels of experience.

Itinerary

  • Travel Time: 6 hours by private Jeep or nearly 7 hours by local bus.

After breakfast, you will embark on a journey to Dhunche, covering a distance of 118 kilometers. The route promises an exciting experience as it winds through hills and picturesque villages along zigzag roads, offering an adventurous start to your day.

As you travel, you will be captivated by the natural splendor of the landscape and the breathtaking vistas of the massive Himalayas, including Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, and Langtang. The journey also allows you to savor regional cuisine, adding a cultural touch to your adventure.

The drive includes crossing the Trisuli River, a scenic highlight, and passing through the national park checkpoint, where the region’s protected beauty begins to unfold. Upon arrival in Dhunche, you can relax and unwind, spending the night at a comfortable hotel to prepare for the next leg of your journey.

  • Travel Time:  6 hours foot walk

From today your trekking adventure starts, after enjoying breakfast you will be heading uphill towards the destination Sing Gompa. On the way, you will be passing through the Himalayan mineral water factory and suspension bridges, along with this beautiful landscape, rhododendron forest, and views of the Langtang Mountain will be eagerly welcoming us. Passing through nature and the villages inhabited by the local Tamang community and army check post you will reach Sing Gompa and try to observe the local cheese factory there. Overnight at the tea house

  • Travel Time: 5 to 6 hours

You will have breakfast in the early morning while taking in the breathtaking mountain vistas before the hike into Gosaikunda begins. With the breathtaking vistas of the Himalayas, today will be a little more difficult because you will be climbing uphill towards the mountain. You will arrive at Gosaikunda Lake, one of the holiest lakes for both Buddhists and Hindus, after a strenuous ascent. People often visit this sacred lake because they believe that a plunge in it will wash away all of their sins; it is especially special during the “Janai Purnima” holiday. The best views of the surrounding mountain and lake may be seen if you visit in the winter. Spend the night in a tea house.

  • Travel Time: 7 to 9 hours

You will be traveling to Tharepati today after breakfast, where you will be able to enjoy views of the surrounding Himalayas and the lake. The day will be a little more difficult because you will be ascending uphill to reach the top of the pass, also known as the Gosaikunda Pass or Lauribinayak Pass (4609M/15122Ft), which is the highest point of elevation of the entire walk. Since you will be climbing and descending all the way before Tharepati, the track today has more zigzags. For a photographer, this will be an exciting experience because the entire trail is full of beauty and excitement. Spend the night in the tea house.

  • Travel Time: 5 hours

Since you will be traveling downhill toward Kutumsang, it will be a leisurely day. It’s a great downhill hike that passes through small communities and forests, and you might even spot some wildlife. The Tamang people live in Kutumsang, a lovely village where you will be greeted with warmth. Spend the night in the tea house.

  •

Travel Time: 6 to 7 hours

After breakfast in the morning, you will be leaving the local hospitality and traveling downhill in the direction of Chisapani. Views of the mountains, villages, and lovely woodland will be seen as you descend. You will go to Chisapani, which means cold water, where you may observe the daily activities of the local villages and the surrounding natural surroundings. Views of the sunrise and the stunning Langtang mountain range may be seen from this rural settlement. Spend the night in the tea house.

  • Travel Time: 4 hours

After breakfast, spend time hiking through an oak and rhododendron woodland, all the way downward. Since this is the primary source of drinking water for the inhabitants of Kathmandu and the origin of the Bagmati River, you will be able to see the water reservoir and a few dams in between. You will arrive at the army checkpoint after driving through the village with its many marijuana farms and jungle. From there, you will continue downhill to Sundarijal, from where your car will be driven for an hour’s trip to Kathmandu.
