Overview

Pisang Peak, at 6,091m above sea level, is one of the most popular trekking peaks in Nepal. It combines thrilling adventure with high altitude trekking and climbing. Situated in the Annapurna region, the peak rises above the beautiful village of Pisang and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Annapurna and Manaslu ranges. It is a 22-day expedition with Nepal Mt Lovers that starts with sightseeing and preparation in Kathmandu, after which it will be heading to Besisahar (760m), the gateway to the Annapurna Circuit. The trek gradually goes uphill through Ngadi (930m), Chamje (1,410m), Dharapani (1,860m), and Chame (2,720m), offering a thrilling landscape, thick forests, and riverbanks.  From Pisang (3,200m), the route moves towards Pisang Peak Base Camp (4,380m) and High Camp (5,400m), where the climbers will be preparing for the summit.

It involves technical climbing to the summit, offering a once-in-a-lifetime view of 6,091m and great views of Annapurna II, III, IV, Gangapurna, and Tilicho Peak. It traces the descent back to Upper Pisang (3,300m), Manang (3,440m), Yak Kharka (4,200m), then crosses the famous Thorong La Pass (5,416m), down to Muktinath (3,800m) and Jomsom (2,750m). Finally, the trek concludes with a beautiful flight to Pokhara and returns to Kathmandu. It is the ideal expedition for good physical fitness and some mountaineering experience for trekkers. The climb itself includes walking on snow, ice, and rocky terrain. This makes it an excellent introduction to Himalayan climbing. The cultural richness and superlative landscape of the Annapurna region have blended together to give the Pisang Peak Climbing adventure at its summit.

Pisang Peak Climbing Itinerary

  • Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu (1,400m), you will be met and transferred to your hotel. After some rest, a pre-trip briefing on the Pisang Peak climb will be provided with discussion on logistics, equipment, and safety matters. Explore the busy and lively streets of Thamel, purchase last-minute trekking gear, or relax at the hotel.

  • This day is going to be a hectic one as it is dedicated to the sightseeing tour of UNESCO-listed heritage sites of Kathmandu including Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Pashupatinath, and Boudhanath. Finalize the permits, check the climbing equipment, and all stuff for the adventure in the afternoon. Spend the evening at a local restaurant enjoying Nepalese food.

  • A scenic drive from Kathmandu to Besisahar (760m) begins the journey. The drive follows winding mountain roads, passing lush hills, terraced fields, and charming villages along the Trishuli and Marsyangdi rivers. Arriving at Besisahar, we check into a hotel for an overnight stay, preparing for the trekking days ahead.

  • The first day of trekking starts as we leave Besisahar and follow the Marsyangdi River towards Ngadi (930m). Beautiful views of rice fields, waterfalls, and local villages are some of the offerings of this portion of the trail. A gentle ascent takes us to Ngadi, where we stay overnight in a teahouse, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the lower Annapurna region.

  • Today’s trek follows a mix of uphill and downhill trails, crossing suspension bridges and passing dense forests. As we reach Chamje (1,410m), we start seeing dramatic landscapes with cliffs and waterfalls. Chamje is a small village with a few lodges, where we rest for the night, preparing for a more challenging ascent ahead.

  • We follow the trail via a forest of rhododendrons on rocky paths and cross several suspension bridges to reach Dharapani at 1,860 meters. The village of Dharapani is a big stopping point on the Annapurna Circuit and affords views of the mountains surrounding it. Overnight at a teahouse.

  • Today’s trek goes through dense pine and fir forests, offering spectacular views of Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal. We reach Chame (2,720m), the headquarters of the Manang district, where we can enjoy natural hot springs and rest in a comfortable teahouse.

  • Gradually acquiring the height of Pisang at 3,200m, the vegetation changes with a more rugged landscape. The Marsyangdi River below and first close-up views of Pisang Peak are a few attractions. After reaching Pisang village, we explore the village and prepare for the climb.

  • Leaving the main Annapurna Circuit trail, we trek to Pisang Peak Base Camp (4,380m). Gradually, it ascends through alpine meadows and stops at the base camp for overnight camping. The rest of the day is acclimatization and preparation for the climb.

  • A steep ascent brings us to High Camp at 5,400m where the air is thin. The climb requires careful pacing and proper acclimatization. After arriving at High Camp, we erect our tents, enjoy hot meals, and rest for the night before the summit push.

  • Early in the morning, we will ascend to the summit of Pisang Peak at 6,091 meters. We use ropes and crampons to make our way through the icy sections and reach the summit, where awe-inspiring views of Annapurna, Manaslu, and surrounding Himalayas can be seen. After celebrating this achievement, we carefully make our way down to High Camp for the night.

  • After a successful summit, we descend to Base Camp at 4,380m and celebrate with our team. The descent is much easier, and we take time to enjoy the scenery. We will stay overnight in tents, recovering from the climb.

  • This is a spare day in case of bad weather conditions or any other unforeseen delays. If everything runs smoothly, we can spend this extra time sightseeing around, or descend earlier, as it befits us.

  • We start off and join the trail of Annapurna Circuit. We trekked down to Upper Pisang at 3,300 meters today. Downhill is quite easy and is mostly through yak pastures and local settlements to reach the village for an overnight stay at a teahouse.

  • A scenic trek along the Marsyangdi River takes us to Manang, a picturesque Himalayan village at 3,440m. It epitomizes the Tibetan culture for its rich mountain vistas. Explore the village and have a pleasant night in the lodge.

  • Leaving Manang, we ascend gradually to Yak Kharka at 4,200m via alpine meadows where yaks graze. The altitude gain calls for a slow pace to get proper acclimatization before crossing the Thorong La Pass.

  • Today’s trek is to Thorong Phedi at 4,450m, the last stop before the challenging Thorong La Pass. Landscapes get more rugged, and rest early for the high-altitude crossing the next day.

  • In The early morning we will ascend to Thorong La Pass, one of the highest trekking passes in the world, at 5,416m, making the day challenging. The descent down to Muktinath at 3,800m offers stunning views. We then visit the sacred Muktinath Temple overnight.

  • From here, we drop down to the Kali Gandaki Valley and reach Jomsom at 2,750m, which is a windy town mainly known for its orchards of apples. We celebrate our successful climb and stay overnight at a hotel.

  • A morning flight brings us to Pokhara, lakeside comfort in a hotel and the rest of the day free to sightseeing, boating on Phewa Lake or simply relaxing in a café.

  • Either we drive back via a scenic route or take a quick flight to Kathmandu. A Farewell dinner in the evening is organized in regard to the successful expedition of Pisang Peak.

  • After an incredible journey, now it’s time to say goodbye. Depending on flight schedules, you will be transferred to the airport for your departure, keeping unforgettable memories of Pisang Peak and the Annapurna region.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pisang Peak (6,091m) is situated in the Annapurna region of Nepal, above the village of Pisang. It lies along the Annapurna Circuit trekking route between Chame and Manang.

Pisang Peak is considered a moderate to challenging trekking peak. While prior climbing experience is beneficial, it is not mandatory. However, trekkers must have good physical fitness and be comfortable walking on steep, snowy, and icy terrain. Basic mountaineering skills such as using crampons, ice axes, and ropes will be required.

The best seasons are Spring (March-May) and Autumn (September-November) when the weather is stable, skies are clear, and temperatures are favorable. Winter can be extremely cold, and the monsoon brings heavy rainfall, making the climb more challenging.

While prior mountaineering experience is not mandatory, it is highly recommended. Trekkers should be physically fit and have experience with high-altitude trekking. Familiarity with basic climbing techniques, such as using an ice axe, ropes, and crampons, is helpful.

Yes, climbers need the following permits:

  • Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) Climbing Permit
  • Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)
  • Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) Card

These permits are arranged by trekking agencies.

The entire Pisang Peak climbing expedition takes around 22 days, including arrival in Kathmandu, acclimatization, summit attempt, and descent via the Annapurna Circuit. The actual ascent from Base Camp to the summit takes about 2-3 days, depending on weather conditions.

During the trek, teahouses/lodges are available in villages like Pisang, Manang, and Chame. However, at Pisang Peak Base Camp and High Camp, climbers must camp in tents, as there are no lodges at higher altitudes.

Yes, altitude sickness is a concern as the trek reaches heights over 5,000m. Proper acclimatization days are included in the itinerary, and trekkers should drink plenty of water, walk at a slow pace, and be aware of symptoms like headaches, dizziness, or nausea.

Climbing Mera Peak: An Unforgettable Adventure with Nepal Mountain Lovers I climbed Mera Peak with Nepal Mountain Lovers in April 2024, and it was one of the best trips of my life. Nepal is a land of magic, and the Nepalese people are kind, supportive, and welcoming. Tara, the organizer, has all these qualities and more. My sherpas, Wanglee and Gyalje, were incredible. Wanglee and I had so much fun on the way up to Khare and all the way back to Kathmandu. The accommodation, food, weather, and scenery were all fantastic. I'm already looking forward to another adventure with them in the future. I have full confidence in Tara and his organization, and I highly recommend them to everyone. Thanks a lot, my friend, and see you again soon!

Exceptional, Awesome and Amazing We are thrilled to share our extremely positive feedback about Nepal Mountain Lovers company, particularly regarding our experience with Tara and his team. Our group, consisting of 10 individuals from South India (some of us came from Melbourne, Australia (South India Origin)), embarked on a pilgrimage trip. Given our specific requirements for flights, accommodation, and food, Tara not only ensured that we had a memorable journey but also became a true friend to us. He effortlessly made us feel as though we were being guided by a trusted friend or family member. Tara took the time to understand our food preferences and always made arrangements to meet our needs, even when we made last-minute requests like wanting to do a motorbike ride on the hills. Thanks to his extensive knowledge of Nepal, our trip was made easy and stress-free.Recognising that many of our parents were elderly, Tara went above and beyond to organise the necessary facilities to accommodate their needs. Every aspect of our trip, from coordination to planning, was meticulously arranged. Throughout the 9-day trip, each day proved to be exceptional.Towards the end of our journey, we encountered unexpected challenges due to forest fires, resulting in the cancellation of flights from Jomsom and Pokhara. However, Tara swiftly arranged alternative transportation, ensuring our safety and ensuring that none of our planned activities were missed. It was disheartening to witness other travelers from other agencies stranded at the airport, while we were well taken care of by Tara and his team.We were delighted with the exceptional service provided by Tara and his team at Nepal Mountain Lovers. Should we have the opportunity to visit Nepal again, we would not hesitate to seek their services. In fact, my friends and I are already considering another adventure with Tara, particularly to the base camp.We wholeheartedly recommend Tara and Nepal Mountain Lovers to anyone seeking adventure, a pilgrimage, or simply a chance to admire the stunning mountains of Nepal. Their professionalism, expertise, and dedication are truly commendable.

The beauty of the Himalayas in the best of hands! We learned so much sightseeing even if we only had 2 days to visit Kathmandu, Tara, our city guide, was the best and knew exactly what to focus our attention on. We even had the privilege to participate in a cultural evening with Nepalese foods and traditional dance from various ethnic groups like the Sherpa and the Tamang. Wow! Hindouisme and Buddhism come together peacefully and colorfully in the capital city of Nepal! So many temples, stupas, monuments to honor Hindu gods or Buddha. A rich history to say the least that was very well presented to us!Tara also organized our 13 day trek to and from Everest base camp. He found us the best guide, Bishal, and local porters for our adventure. We are a Canadian family and we were with our 3 children, our youngest is 9 and we also have a 12 and 14 year old. We felt very safe and well advised all along the way. We discovered much about the food, the culture, the Buddhist monuments and the mountains thanks to our guide. When we were on our way back from EBC (yes we made it!) and needed some changes made regarding our flight back for example the communication was clear and efficient with both our trek guide and Tara.I highly recommend Nepal Mountain Lovers Treks and Expedition. The logistics of travel for our trekking expedition and the human connection with our guides were all in place to facilitate this unique experience. We have been blessed to have been able to witness the power and beauty of the Himalayas while in the best of hands!

Very Tara was accommodating, from the intial emails and calls until we arrived there. He was flexible as I changed my mind several times during the planning process. He personally accompanied us during the tour and it shows he is a very experienced guide/ owner. He has done a lot of the treks himself so you feel secured with him. Overall what a positive experience booking with this company!

I will come back! I was a solo traveller in a fabulous trekking organized by Mr. Tara in the first week of December, great period to go to the Everest region if you want to stay clear off tourist crowds. Everything was perfectly organized, was handled with professionalism, overall, my trekking experience was beyond my expectations. The package included airport pickup and drop-off 2 days in a very good 3 star hotel in Kathmandu, a round trip ticket Kathmandu-Lukla-Kathmandu, a cultural program, a price, and many other facilities usually given to large groups. My trekking started as for any tourists, from Lukla airport with Mr. Dipak, a very professional and experienced guide and also a great travel mate, open to any kinds of conversation all along the trek that lasted around 12 days. I added 2 extra days to visit Kathmandu guided by Mr. Tara who also helped me to get a special price for my extra days’ accommodation. I am a very happy and super satisfied trekker who keeps on recommending Mr. Tara’s agency, to friends and acquaintances. What I found really amazing, is I felt like travelling together with my best friends. I am going to repeat it adding Imja Tse peak.

Trek to Everest Base Camp and Visit of Kathmandu My son and I have had a wonderful trek to Everest Base Camp superbly organized by Tara. The guide and porter he selected were professional and took good care of us throughout the 12 days trek. Tara was our guide in Kathmandu and the area. All the site he selected were interesting to visit and see. All the recommendations he made either met or exceeded our expectations including the small hotel in the middle of the city and close to everything. Tara was also extremely flexible to adjust his plans and schedule to our last minute request. My son and I plan to go back to Nepal for another father and son trip and we will use no one else but Tara and the Nepal Mountain Lovers agency.

Well organized, flexible and delightful We contacted Tara over 2 years ago for the Everest Base Camp Trek, but the earthquake made it impossible. We had already given him the deposit for the trip. No problem, 2 years later, we were finally able to meet and do the trek! When we got sick going up, he added a day for use no problem. The guide he chose was reliable, flexible, fun and he knew his business. Tara called us on the mountain to make sure everything was okay. His advice made it possible for us to get to the base camp and to summit Kala Patthar. When we got back, we booked a small cultural tour of Kathmandu. Tara was our guide. Always smiling and laughing. He made this trip a delight. Very happy to have met this man. 10/10 would recommend and use again!

A Short But Memorable Trek In Nepal My friend and I had only a few days spare to visit Nepal, but as soon as I contacted Tara at Nepal Mountain Lovers I knew we would be able to arrange a trip that was full and worthwhile. Tara replied very promptly to my initial message and had designed an itinerary that suited our time frame very well. He was there to greet us at the airport and drive us straight to the International Guest House in Thamel district (we'd requested a budget trip and were pleasantly surprised with how nice the place was). Once we were settled in the hotel, Tara sat us down with the map and asked if we would like to do a trek that was a little more challenging than our initial itinerary - which we were more than happy to do. The trek itself was fantastic. The uphills did leave us a little breathless but were well worth it as we were rewarded with stunning views of the Kathmandu valley and the surrounding mountains. Along the way, Tara was full if interesting facts about Nepal - it's religion, politics and anything else we asked about. The pace of the trek was good, with plenty of breaks and stops to take pictures - at no point did we feel rushed. We also had no problem finding hotels to stay in along the way. Upon returning to Kathmandu, Tara took us on a walk through Bhaktapur, an ancient town full of fascinating architecture and historical curiosities. Our final evening was spent at a traditional Nepalese dinner, with dancers and musicians to entertain the guests, showcasing the best of Nepalese culture. Overall we were extremely pleased with the service provided. The cost was very reasonable and it left us free to enjoy Nepal's beautiful landscapes without having to worry about anything! Tara was an excellent guide, a friendly man who was very accommodating to our needs. We're already talking about returning to Nepal to do the Everest base camp trek. If you're planning a trip we would highly recommend getting in touch with Nepal Mountain Lovers.
