Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek Overview
The journey begins in Kathmandu and continues overland toward Taplejung by public bus. The road journey is long, but it provides a more economical way to reach the eastern Kanchenjunga trekking area.
From Taplejung, the trekking route gradually enters the remote mountain valleys. The landscape changes from lower forests and cultivated hills to narrow valleys, alpine forests and high-altitude terrain.
The route continues through places such as Mitlung, Chirwa, Sekathum, Amjilosa, Gyabla, Ghunsa, Kambachen and Lhonak before reaching the Kanchenjunga Base Camp area.
Adequate acclimatization is included around Ghunsa and Kambachen before the highest part of the trek. After visiting the base camp, the route returns through the high mountain area and continues toward Tseram, Torong/Tortong and Yamphudin before returning toward Taplejung.
From Taplejung, the group travels back to Kathmandu by public bus.
Because this is a remote trek, the exact overnight locations and travel times can sometimes change because of trail conditions, weather, road conditions and local accommodation availability.
