KATHMANDU TO GHALEGAUN JOURNEY

Kathmandu to Ghalegaun journey is wonderful journey to explore the village life of Nepali people as well as community living of Ghale tribes. Ghale is one of the indigenous communities in Nepal. We started our journey 16 June, 2014. About a three hour drive was really interesting in a rainy day, mainly the mountain off-road from Beshisahar to Ghalegaun. There are many home stay for the internal guests and guests from aboard. Local organic food was delicious, also fairly cheap. We tested homemade alcohol which was quite strong.

People in Ghalegaun are very simple and friendly. Most of them are dependent on agriculture. As June is monsoon and rice planting time in Nepal, we got to see people working in their field, planting rice and enjoying the rain. Ghalegaun is famous also for wild honey hunting which has been a source of income for local people. We were guided by the local honey hunters to the hunting sites. It was amazing to see the very challanging hunting sites. We found the local honey hunters very brave who have been hunting the wild honeybees in a traditional manner that requires a number of people.

We got back from the trip with unforgetable memory of great hospitality of people, adventurous wild honey hunting and natural beauty of Ghalegaun.
