Overview

Mardi Himal trek is recognized as one of the shorter and more accessible treks in the Annapurna region of Nepal. This trek is characterized by its low crowd density, easy accessibility, and stunning views of Annapurna South, the entire Annapurna range, and the Fish Tail mountain, along with close-up views of Mardi Himal and Manaslu, including breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. It is an ideal trek for beginners, solo travelers, and families with children. The trek commences from either Kande or Phedi, both of which are in close proximity to Pokhara. It is located just 30 kilometers from Pokhara and can be reached in approximately 45 minutes by car. Pokhara is the second-largest tourist city in Nepal, renowned for its natural beauty. Among its many lakes, Phewa Lake and Begnash Lake are particularly popular among tourists for boating activities. Phewa Lake is connected to the lakeside area, where numerous hotels are available, with nearly 95% of tourists opting to stay in accommodations along the lakeside. In addition to the lakes, the region boasts numerous caves, lush green hills, viewpoints, and stunning Himalayan scenery. World-famous treks such as the Annapurna Base Camp trek, Poon Hill trek, and Upper Mustang trek all begin in Pokhara.

There are numerous trekking options available in the Annapurna region that start from Pokhara, but what makes the Mardi Himal trek a preferred choice?

Many trekking trails in the Annapurna region involve significant elevation changes. The trail from Sinuwa to Machapuchre Base Camp and Annapurna Base Camp traverses the base of the mountains or follows the Modi Khola river, which originates from the melting snow of the Annapurna range. This route is prone to avalanches, particularly during the winter and spring seasons, and the trail passes through a gorge, increasing the risk of landslides as well. In contrast, the Mardi Himal trek follows a path along the tops of the hills, minimizing the risk of encountering avalanches and landslides. The views of Annapurna South, Fish Tail, and the entire Annapurna range are remarkably close, creating the sensation that one could almost reach out and touch them. Thus, it is considered an easier trek. There are several starting points for the Mardi Himal trek, including Phedi, Kande, Ghalel, and Kalimat.
